If - Rudyard Kipling

This weekend I heard about this poem - If.

This is a wonderful poem that reminds me about lessons from Bhagvat Gita as well "treat trump and disaster with balance". The poem inspires hope, wonder, commitment, and calmness. Thank you Mr. Kipling. In the past I was familiar with Rudyard's The six honest men I keep, and If is even better!

If—

If you can keep your head when all about you
    Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
    But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
    Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
    And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
    If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
    And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
    Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
    And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
    And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
    And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
    To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
    Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
    Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
    If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
    With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
    And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

Low noise high cleaning Vacuum Cleaner

Today I read about Samsung's new vacuum cleaner. This looks great and from what I read it seems to incorporate better sensors and noise cancellation. I wonder how they do the air flow control to reduce the noise?

Wow! all these interesting questions

Ever wonder how tall is the empire state building or how useful it may be to tap dance while writing. Check out the intrguing quesitons that some interviewers may ask http://www.businessinsider.com/tough-interview-questions-glassdoor-2013-1#

I would rather say that the best prodcut for the $1M enterpreneurial price is to give me peace time - meaning a time that is a break from advertisements in my browing experience for a day. I would not mind paying, say 10 cents per day to keep the ADs off my back. Can someone please give me scuh an 'peace product'?

Nevertheless, the questions are intriguing and should be attempted. One of my often asked questions is also included in this list.

Need great phones at affordable prices and great quality

There is a hunger in the market for great quality phones with great quality services. And of course it better come with affordable price. Precisely that is what Republic wireless is attempting. see http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/19/republic-wireless-open-to-all/.

Will there be great phones? Will there be great quality coverage? Will there be good customer satisfaction past the initial lower price appeal? Time will tell.

We are living in exponential times - on the world view

See ths video to get a broader view of the world and emerging economy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lUMf7FWGdCw

Two days back over lunch, we were chatting about how our focus changes. Oviya is nearing 8 years old. And she is inquisitive about everything in the world. She is reading Harry Potter books, painting nice pictures, dreaming about her birthday and reading weird but true facts National Geographic book. And we adults are concerned about what to buy for groceries this weekend, what to cook for her birthday party, etc.There is sometimes a contrast. At our young age, we are all eager to learn about the most things in the world. As we age, we seem to know a LOT about little things in a niche area. Is that how the world evolves?

For sure focusing on little things does pay off. One becomes a specialist in the area of work and hence can earn a living. And can be recognized and rewarded as well.

Innovation and flow (a poem)

Innovation was slow,
Compensation was low,
We saw some people outflow.

And then magic happened …

Innovation picked up,
We got the glow,
We got more profits went up,
Compensation has a positive flow,
Starting the people inflow.

Visualizing Carnatic Ragas

I have a newly found interest in visualizing the carnatic ragas. Music is a fantastic language of expression. Listening to sound is one thing; Singing out is another; Visualizing can be another form. The third form can connect the dots between music and visual arts. More on music visualization here.

Also check out this site - http://www.swarasindhu.in - that has good collection of primer materials on music.
